SUNNINGWELL PEN LANE SP4900 (East side) 17/148 Beaulieu Court Farmhouse 06/08/52 - II Farmhouse. Early C17: remodelled late C18 and mid/late C19. Roughcast over limestone rubble with ashlar quoins: rubble plinth and moulded string course. Hipped Welsh slate roof; stone ridge stack rebuilt C20. Cross-shaped plan. 3 storeys; 3-window range. Central 3-storey porch has two-light round-headed stone window above broken segmental pediment and label mould over 4-centred moulded stone doorway: C18 panelled inner door with dolphin knocker set in C17 chamfered stone architrave. Mid/late C19 sashes: late C18 parapet. Rear wing, of one bay, has early C17 doorway with segmental-arched chamfered stone architrave. Wing to left remodelled in late C18 and C19: of similar materials: 2-storey, 3-window range: C19 three-light Gothick casements to left side wall and front gable end. Interior: some stone-mullioned cavetto-moulded 2-light round-headed windows have been unblocked (part of original symmetrical front). Moulded stone fireplaces and C18 panelled doors: stop-chamfered beams. Late C18 dog-leg stairs. First floor not inspected but likely to be of interest. (Buildings of England: Berkshire, p.236).
