GV II
Blacksmith's house and forge, now garage and workshop. Mid C18. Colourwashed brick in Flemish bond; old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 2-window front, with plinth, storey bond and dentil eaves course, has segmental-arched cross windows at ground floor and 2-light casements above. The central doorway is probably an insertion. Right return wall, facing road has similar windows towards rear. Hipped roof has 2 gabled roof dormers at the rear. 2 large chimney projections at the rear are partly concealed by the long single-storey workshop extending from the rear. Small annexe in angle of ranges has a 6-panel door and sash windows. Large C20 brick extension to rear of workshop is not of special architectural interest. Interior not inspected. Front flanks the northern entrance to the village, balancing The Harcourt Arms (q.v.). Part of the estate village built c.1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt. (M.
