Details
MERTON STREET 1. 1485 (North Side) No 17 SP 5106 SE 9/470 12.1.54. II GV 2. House. RCHM 85. Probably originally C17 and altered in C18. 2-storeyed rubble with cellars and a later 3rd storey with a cement-faced timber-framing which overhangs. There are stone bands at the 1st and 2nd floors, a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The ground floor has a modern sash window and a plain front doorway with a small hood. In the 1st floor is a modern bay window of 4 lights in a wood frame with a moulded entablature; on each side of this bay is a single light sash window. The top over-hanging floor has 3 sash windows in moulded wood frames. All the windows except those on the ground floor have glazing bars. (For lease and tenants see Oxf Hist Soc LXVI, 237).
