Details

BANBURY WEST BAR STREET (North side) SP4540SW No.4 and steps, railings, 9/209 plinth front, wall and 07/10/69 gatepier to left (Formerly listed as No.4) GV II

House. Probably C18, remodelled C19. Limestone ashlar. Stone slate roof laid to diminishing courses. Stone bases of stacks at ends. Stone copings. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys plus attic; 4-window range. Entrance off-centre to left has 4-panelled door, side windows, fanlight and pediment on consoles. Venetian window to left has keystoned head. 2 similar windows to right. 4 similar windows to first floor. 4 gabled roof dormers. Flat band between ground floor and first floor. Moulded, chamfered eaves cornice below stone parapet. Steps, railings and stone plinth to front. Wall to left of squared blocks of ironstone. Stone coping swept up to left. Square ironstone pier. Wall incorporates 6-panelled door with moulded wood surround. (Buildings of England: Oxfordshire, 1974, p.443).
