WROXTON STRATFORD ROAD SP4040-4140 (North side) 10/262 Wroxton Hotel including suites 08/12/55 1, 2 and 3 (Formerly listed as Wroxton Cottage and Cottage adjacent and at N of Wroxton Cottage) GV II 4 cottages/houses, now hotel. C17 to C19. Datestone IS/1736. Coursed squared ironstone. C19 part has finely jointed ashlar ironstone. 3 parts have steeply pitched thatched roofs, the C19 part on the south facing the main road has a steeply pitched slate roof. Brick ridge stacks on stone bases and stone ridge and end stacks. North part: single-unit plan, single storey. C20 bow window and C20 door. Part attached to south and on corner. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys. 4-window range. A canted bay window on left, three 3-light wood casements on right with stone flat arches. First floor has four 3-light wood casements with wrought-iron casement fasteners and springs. Painted wood lintels. Ironstone quoins. C19 part. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys. 3-window range. Entrance on right has thatched stone porch. C20 door and overlight. Tripartite sash with horns to left with keyblock stone lintel. 3 sashes with horns on first floor. C19 part parallel to C19 range facing main road: 3-unit plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 2-window range. Various C20 doors including French doors on first floor balcony reached by external staircase. Wood casements. Half-dormers. Suites 1, 2 and 3: house now part of hotel. Late C17/early C18. Coursed squared ironstone rubble. Steeply pitched C20-tile roof. Brick end stack on moulded stone base. 2-unit plan with single-storey, single-unit extension on right. Main part. 2 storeys, 2-window range. Entrance on right has a C20 door and stone lintel. Blocked entrance to left. C20 metal casements with stone flat arches on ground floor and painted wood lintel on first floor. Extension has a 2-light wooden fixed window with wood lintel and a blocked entrance with wood lintel. Ironstone quoins. (VCH: Oxfordshire, Vol IX, p171)
