Details

NOKE SP51SW 6/117 The Old Rectory - II Rectory, now house. c.1700, C18 and 1883. Coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate and plain-tile roofs with brick stacks. Complex plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window stone-slated range in centre of front is the earliest and has 16-pane sashes below flat arches, with the entrance, to left, within a C19 wooden porch; taller 3-window C19 range to left has larger sashes below chamfered stone lintels and the roof is hipped to left, returning to rear; low 2-window C18 range, to right, has small 2-light casements at first floor and larger horizontal-sliding sashes below. The central and C19 sections extend to rear, each with double-gabled projections, the earlier with a leaded cross window above a deeply-chamfered round-arched opening. Interior: early C19 dog-leg stair with ramped handrail; stone flat-arched corner fireplace. (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol.VI, pp.268-9).
