Details
HORTON CUM STUDLEY HORTON SP51SE 7/60 West Hill Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Probably C17, extended C18 and partly re-modelled C19. Limestone rubble and brick with some timber framing; old plain-tile roof with brick ridge stack, 2-unit lobby-entry plan extended to 3 units and to T-plan. One storey plus attic and 2 storeys. Earlier bays have a central doorway between 3-light casements, with a further doorway (now casement) to extreme right, all with segmental arches; small leaded window above the door. Roof is half-hipped to left and has two 3-light gabled dormers and a large rebuilt central stack. Walls are in C19 brick, probably replacing timber framing. Added rubble bay to right has a 3-light first-floor casement and a lower half-hipped roof. Some timber framing with brick infill remains at rear. 2-storey brick, late C18, rear wing has segmental-arched casements. Interior has a massive central stack with blocked fireplaces. "I.1647.B" on an adjacent barn (not included) may be the date of the house. (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol.V, p.58).
