Details

HOOK NORTON SP33SE 5/6 Swerford Park 08/12/55 GV II* House. C18. Remodelled in 1824-9 by J.M. Gandy. Stucco with 2 stone stacks on right end. Stucco removed from main front in 1984, revealing limestone walling. Welsh slate roof stripped at time of re-survey. North front of 3- bays and 2 storeys plus attic. Central entrance bay of Soanian character with 2 Greek Doric columns in antis supporting a balustraded balcony to the central room on the first-floor. Side bays have tripartite sash windows. Sash windows to first-floor and attic storey. 3-storey south elevation is noted as having two 3-sided, 3-storeyed bay windows. Interior: Hall has pine door- cases with eared architraves and carved friezes. Contemporary fireplace in room to left of hall. Noted as having C18 style staircse with mahogany handrail. Robert Snow Bolton Davis son of Samuel Davis was living in Swerford Park in 1893. (Buildings of England : Oxfordshire, 1974, p798).
