Pair of cottages at Nether Birchitt
II
Pair of cottages, formerly one house. Late C17 with mid C18 alterations and with alterations and additions in C19 and C20. Coursed squared coal measures sandstone with quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, gable stacks and a Welsh slated roof. South elevation. Two storeys, three bays, with lower additions to either end, that to the east two storey, that to the west single storey, both additions with stone slates.
Central range. Central doorway with moulded classical doorcase and keyblock integral with the lintel. C20 planked and studded door. Flanking the doorway are three-light chamfer mullioned windows beneath a continuous dripmoulding which terminates at the doorway, the doorway itself has a dripmoulding set at a higher level which is not connected to the lower moulding. First floor windows are lower versions of the ground floor openings. C19 glazing bar casements and fixed lights to first floor. C20 joinery to ground floor.
North elevation considerably altered, but retaining several C17 windows and a central full height stair window.
