EGLINGHAM HANGWELL LAW NU 12 SW NU 12502440 2/177 Boundary stone on boundary with Ellingham P.C. II

Boundary stone. Probably c.1755 utilising a large-unshaped stone which may have served as a previous boundary or route marker. Tilted monolith with incised letters C H (Carnaby Haggerston) on north and I C (John Cay) on south; erosion pits in top.

The westernmost member of a series extending across Middle Moor (q.v.). Sir Carnaby Haggerston held the manor of Ellingham 1740-56 whilst John Cay held North Charlton 1754-82; the stones mark the boundary between these townships.
