19/161 The Old School
GV II
Formerly the colliery school, now Wylam Assembly Church. 1854. Ashlar and Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys. L-shaped. Alternating flush quoins. Long arm of L has two irregularly placed 12-pane sashes on each floor. Projecting wing to right has one 12-pane sash on each floor and one small 6-pane staircase window. All windows have alternating block jambs and slightly projecting sills. One door in later random rubble porch in angle of L, another on right return.
Gabled roofs with flat coping and kneelers. Stone corniced end stacks on rear wing. Similarly lateral stack on projecting wing. Dated gabled bellcote on gable of projecting wing.
Included for historical value as an example of education service to colliery community.
