OTTERBURN OLD TOWN NY 89 SE 25/42 Old Town Farmhouse with wall and archway attached to west side GV II

Farmhouse. Front span C18, refronted mid C19; rear span and attached wall early C19. Ashlar and random rubble; graduated Lakeland slate roof. Double- span roof with long wing projecting to rear.

Facade 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central stone porch with stone pent roof. Flanking 4-light bay windows with hollow-chamfered mullions and stone pent roofs. On 1st floor three 3-light mullioned windows. Steeply-pitched gabled roof with flat coping, kneelers and banded end stacks.

Returns have 12-pane sashes.

Rear span in fine early C19 ashlar has 12-pane sashes with plain reveals and projecting sills. Rear wing has one tripartite sash and 12-pane sashes. Gable end of rear wing has segmental carriage arch and boarded double doors.

Interior: staircase with stick balusters; 6-panel doors and shutters.

Wall attached to west side L-plan. c.20 feet long and 12 feet high. In the centre an elliptical carriage arch. To right a boarded door which has, above the lintel, a re-set segmental pediment with moulded surround, foliage trails and a shield inscribed MER for Errington Reed. MDCC
