2/77 The Old Rectory
- II
House, formerly rectory. Probably C15 with C17-C20 alterations. Coursed
limestone rubble, C20 plain-tile roof, stone end stacks. Cruck framed.
Originally hall house, now 3-unit plan. 2-storey, 2-window range. Central plank
door with overlight and wood lintel in C20 timber porch, with hipped roof. A C20
canted bay window to ground floor right. Small rectangular casement window to
ground floor far left, both with wood lintels. 2-light leaded casements to 1st
floor with wood lintels. C19 single-storey extension to left with 2-light
casement and back door, both with wood lintels. Interior has two raised cruck
trusses. One of these probably formed central truss of small 2-bay hall and has
hollow chamfers to cruck blades, two tiers of collars, the lower collar with
hollow chamfer, and saddle. The other appears to be a closed truss at service
end of hall with 2 collars and clasped principals. Wind-braced purlins.
