GV II

House, dated 1836 with initials WWB (William Burdon) on outbuilding. Squared tooled stone with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings; blue slate roof. Square villa plan. Front 2 storeys, 3 bays, that on left set very slightly forward. Plinth. 3 steps up to central boarded door with fleur-de-lys hinges and studded star-in-lozenge pattern; 4-pane overlight. Ground floor tripartite sash windows with square-section cornices on block corbels; 16-pane sashes above; all openings in alternating-block surrounds, those to lower windows chamfered. Block corbels to eaves. Hipped roof with 2 stepped-and-corniced ridge stacks. Set back to right, single-storey kitchen with C20 window and hipped roof. Left return shows 18-pane sash stair window.

Interior: 6-panel doors; panelled shutters; dog-leg open-string stair with stick balusters, moulded newels and moulded ramped handrail; contemporary fireplaces on 1st floor.

Historical Note. Built as agent's house for Hartford Estate, but in mid-C19 was the Jolly Anglers public house.
