Office Cottage and Long House
GV II
Three cottages, part of row. Early/mid C18. The Long House altered late C20.
Coursed ironstone, thatched roof. Long House has artificial slates; brick
stacks. The Old School House, 2-unit through passage plan with later addition to
rear; Old Post Office Cottage, 2-unit plan; The Long House, L-plan. Each of 2
storeys; 2-window range. The Old School House has central flush 6-panelled
part-glazed door. Leaded light casements. Old Post office Cottage has C19 plank
door on right, and adjoining small C19 shop window with 2 shaped lights and
glazing bars. Wood and iron casements, on first floor with many glazing bars.
Curved bread oven projection on right. The Long House has late C20 door and
leaded light casements. Wood lintels, mostly painted, throughout. Right return
side of The Long House has irregular fenestration and 3 flat roofed dormers. To
rear The Old School House has C19 brick wing and old single panel door.
Interior: The Old School House has open fireplace and winder stairs. Stud
partitions. Old plank and panel doors. Old Post Office Cottage noted as having
open fireplace. The cottages form a group with the church (q.v.) and market
cross base (q.v.).
