BRADDEN MAIN STREET SP6448 (North side) 12/55 Bradden House

GV II

Country house. Dated 1819 on rainwater heads. Late C19 alterations and additions. Ironstone ashlar with limestone dressings, slate roofs, stone end and ridge stacks with terracotta chimneypots. H-plan. 2-storey, 7-window range. Central part-glazed door in stone porch with Doric pillars, simple entablature, and crest above framed by volutes; approached by 2 moulded steps. Coupled 12-pane sash windows in moulded stone surrounds flank door. 12-pane sashes to first floor, those to 3-bay centre with moulded stone surrounds, those to cross wings with flat-arched heads. Plinth, storey band, pediments to wings and balustraded parapet with ball finials. Small square turret to middle of roof with ball finial. Left side elevation in early Georgian style is late C19 addition. Interior: largely remodelled late C19 but retaining some Regency features. Stone-flagged hall. Reeded early C19 doorcases.
