DATCHWORTH HAWKINS HALL LANE TL 21 NE (East side) Datchworth 3/38 Hawkins Hall Farm House - - II
House. Early C15 hall range, floored and heated late C16, wings demolished following fire in 1929. Upper wing rebuilt mid to late C20. Timber frame to core with brick or concrete block additions, all rendered. Steeply pitched tiled roof. 2 bay, 1 storey and attic hall range, 2 storey and attic C20 cross wing. Left part of hall range is rebuilt as through passage at original upper end. Straight joint to early bays which have 3 and 2 light flush frame small pane casements. Plinth. Two 3 light gabled dormers with small pane casements, that to right C19, to left C20. Right end internal axial stack at original lower end of hall, cap rebuilt in C18. Right gable end, 2 light casements, exposed plates, a low C20 gabled outshut. To rear small pane casements and a gabled 3 light dormer, door and dormer in C20 bay. C20 cross wing to left projects with taller ridge, similar casements. Attached to rear of C20 cross wing is a link block to a red brick, slate roofed C19 dairy outbuilding. Interior: exposed framing with chamfered beams of large scantling, moulded fireplace lintel, arched brace, cambered tie beam, 4-way struts to crown post roof. (VCH 1912: T.O. Beachcroft and W.B.
