GV II

Brewery. c1820. Converted to terraced houses c1890. Red brick, slate, hipped roof. Rectangular plan with tunnel back rear extensions to each house. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellars. S front elevation, 8 bays (4 houses), plain, string course between ground and first floor, roof has deep eaves with paired modillions, 3 stacks emerge from roof pitch, all windows except 3 at No.165 are plain horned sashes, the exceptions have glazing bars, 2x4 panes (one on ground floor and pair on first floor). All doorways similar, recessed behind round headed arch, semicircular fan-light, doors similar to one at No.169, with 2 upper panels and one lower boarded panel, (Nos 163-167 upper panels now glazed). Rear N elevation, yellow brick, slate roof with 3 stacks similar to front. 4 identical extensions with slight alterations, No.169, least altered and has single ground and first-floor sash windows with segment heads, glazing bars, 3x4 panes, second-floor casement window with segment head, glazing bars, 4x2 panes. Back extension has slate single pitch roof and stack at apex. First floor 2-light casement (probable replacement), ground floor rear lean-to, slate roof, single light window. Inner E face, to yard, ground floor back doorway, segment headed, 2 similar sash windows, one in each unit, segment heads, glazing bars, 3x4 panes, first floor, one sash window with glazing bars, 3x4 panes and one simple fixed window. W end elevation, yellow brick, straight joint between early block and back additions. Early block has central door with plain flat hood, door has 2 upper glazed panels and 2 lower beaded panels. Adjacent, casement window with glazing bars, 2x2 panes. First floor has horned sash window, segment head, 2x2 panes. Rear addition, one ground and one first floor small casement window. E end elevation, brickwork shows rebuilding, large blocked arched opening roughly central on ground floor with red brick voussoirs. 2 internal symmetrical stacks. The terrace of houses forms a group.
