Details
ACLE SOUTH WALSHAM ROAD TG 41 SW (east side) 2/10 The Bridewell. 12.11.73. G.V. II House. C17 and later; dated 1633 on west wall. Flint, limestone and brick with brick dressings. Roofs pantiled and plaintiled, steeply pitched. 1½ and 2-storeys, L-shaped plan. Wing to south has a cellar, said to be a former prison cell. South wing of 1½ storeys : C20 casements in altered openings. Half-glazed entrance door opposite stack with datestone above. Gabled dormer with 2-light casement with glazing bars; pendant brackets to dormer wallplate. South gable has 3-light casements at ground and first floor level and blocked attic opening with inset stone above (inscription not decipherable). Range to north said to be earlier : scattered fenestration to south : casements with glazing bars, some C20 replacements. C20 entrance doors, one in original chamfered brick opening. Later lean-to at west gable. Gables parapeted and coped with moulded eaves oversailing courses and internal chimney stack. Eaves line raised in red brickwork with dentilled eaves course. Pantiled lean-to on north side.
