TG 20 SWQ MULBARTON RECTORY LANE (north-side) 3/34 The Lodge

GV II

Dwelling. Circa 1800 and earlier. Render on masonry scored in imitation of ashlar. Slate roofs. 2 storeys. Symmetrical main facade of 3 bays. Porch with entablature supported on paired Ionic columns. French windows with glazing bars beneath recessed segmental arches with cusped fan decoration. Flanked by sliding jalousie shutters producing a Venetian effect. Sash windows above with glazing bars forming margin lights and jalousie shutters. Projecting eaves and shallow pitched hipped roof. West facade with a very fine 6-bay cast iron verandah with arches supported on paired reeded columns. Spandrels with radiating bars and a Greek key frieze punctuated with anthemion motifs. Copper bell-base lean-to roof. Fragment of house of c.1700 adjoins east facade. 3 sur- viving first floor 2-light windows with metal casements and original fittings. Interior. Fine staircase of double apsidal plan with square section balusters on open string and roof light. Doors with circular panels and architraves with corner paterae. Plaster groin vaulted hall. Decorative plasterwork.
