CORPUSTY SAXTHORPE TG 13 SW 7/5 Church of St. Andrew 4.10.60 I Parish church. C12 to C15. Restored 1892. Flint and iron conglomerate with stone dressings. Lead roof to nave aisles and porch; chancel roof of black glazed pantiles. West tower, south porch, nave, north and south aisles, chancel and north chapel/vestry. Unbuttressed tower in 3 stages separated by string courses; embattled parapet with stone dressings; polygonal stair turret to south-east with conglomerate quoins and small square pierced stone lights; west window of 2 cusped lights under an octofoil; bell openings of 2 cuspheaded lights under a quatrefoil. 2nd stage openings of 2 lights reduced to one or blocked with brick and knapped flint. West windows to north and south aisles of two lights below 4 quatrefoils under a pointed segmental head. South porch with diagonal buttresses: knapped flint with some bricks; arch partly in rendered brick; niche above contains a tablet memorial; openings on each side of 2 ogee headed lights under mouchettes with square hood mould; open rafter construction roof with moulded beams, C15. Single chamfered arched doorway asymmetrical to porch; ledged and battoned door with circular iron plate (ring missing) with separate superimposed annular border plate of fretwork trefoils. South and north clerestory of knapped flint with 4 windows to each side of 2 ogee headed cusped lights under a sextofoil; arches of alternate bricks and flint. North aisle with stone dressings; south aisle with conglomerate dressings; 3 openings to each aisle, some renewed, of 2 lights and panel tracery under square heads. Plain north doorway partly rebuilt in brick. Chancel south wall has herringbone work in conglomerate and vertical line of conglomerate quoin of earlier building; central door with plain pointed arch in brick; 2 openings of 2 trefoil headed lights under a quatrefoil. East window of 3 lights with panel tracery renewed. Parts of stone cross over chancel gable end. Circular window in gable end of nave. Interior: 4 bays to nave, north and south arcades of octagonal piers with double chamfered arches. Roof of nave and aisles renewed but with C15 moulded principal beams; grotesques as bosses and corbels; shallow pitch, nave with braced tie beams. C15 tower arch moulded to east, round shafts with embattled capitals; above a narrow round headed C12 light splayed to nave. Pointed segmental chancel arch, arch moulded plain jambs. C19 chancel roof of wall braced open rafter construction. Small 4-centre arched doorway to chapel/vestry north of chancel. Similar arch to roof stair, north. C17 communion table with guilloche frieze and initials IS. C17 communion rails with splat balusters and large ball finials. Early C15 painted screen with ogee tracery lights having ball-ended cusps under panel tracery; panels, some renewed, painted alternately with red and green brocade. Fragment of black letter gospel text on south aisle wall. Plain octagonal font with C15 traceried stem. Font cover dated 1621. Below tower long canvas with Royal achievement of Queen Anne flanked by 10 commandments and Old Testament texts.
