TL 31NW STANSTEAD ABBOTS HOLLYCROSS ROAD (east side) 5/16 Stables at Easneye - 40 metres NW of house
GV II
Stableblock. 1868 by Alfred Waterhouse (drawings at house). Red brick with red tiled roofs banded with scolloped tiles. An L- shaped building with main elevation facing E into courtyard fronting the actual stables with grooms' accommodation over reached by a projecting polygonal stair at back. 1-storey and attics in steep roof with crow-stepped gabled projections at each end and 2-storeys gabled centre with asymmetrical chimney and wide arched entrance. Large windows with ornamental surrounds and segmental heads. Large small dormers. Arched headed doors in upper part of projecting gables over paired windows. Lower similar coachhouse in 1-storey N range terminates in 2-storeys laundry block with balanced asymmetry of crow-stepped gables, octagonal chimneys and moulded openings.
