16.5.53 - II

Small country house. 1817. Cement rendered; hipped slate roof; rendered brick stacks. Tudor Gothic style. Roughly L-shaped plan. West front. 2 storeys with first floor cornice band and crenellated parapet. 2:3:2 window front with 2-storey central bowed projection and octagonal corner turrets with crenellated and domed pinnacles.' Transomed 2-light windows with Tudor arch lights beneath a square head and Tudor hood mould. South front of 4 bays in a similar style to the west front. Nail studded door with Tudor arch and panelled spandrels, flanked by octagonal piers with domed pinnacles, linked over the door by a crenellated cornice. Service wing of 1:2 bays set-back to the right; glazing bar sashes; the right hand bay is blind. A detailed inspection of Hatherton Hall was not possible at time of resurvey but it is reputed to have well preserved contemporary interior fittings. B.o.E. p.142.
