BALANCE STREET 1. 1756 (South Side) Nos 53 and 55 SK 0933 1/1 24.10.50. (formerly listed as No 53) II 2. Late C18. Red brick; 2 storeys and attic; 3 sash windows (single glazing bars); later cast iron window baskets to all windows; rectangular stucco plaque with a small swag ornament over each 1st floor window; sill band; recessed door on right-hand side with semi-circular head and fanlight and moulded stucco case with "Tower of the Winds" type engaged columns, plain frieze and dentilled pediment; moulded stucco cornice, and pediment over whole front. No 55, an early C19 wing on right-hand side of 2 storeys has one sash window with cambered head and a large wood mullioned and transomed window below with glazing bars; dentilled brick eaves; tiles.
