Crossroads Cottage
GV II
Cottage. Late C17 with late C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Timber frame, brick infill and additions; tiled roof; brick ridge and end stack to right.
ENTRANCE FRONT: in 2 parts; single-storey and attic timber-framed bay to left of 3-panel height, diagonal braces against wall plate at ends; C20 flat-roofed casement dormer to right; two 3-sided small-pane casement oriels to either side of ground floor interrupt the framing; entrance to right of centre, on projecting architrave; Gothic boarded door. Attached C20 bay to right with higher eaves, but same ridge level; one 3-light C20 casement to ground floor. The complete framing is exposed to the rear (or lane side) of the cottage, and the north gable wall; framing of smaller scantling is continued on into the south or extended part on the ground floor only, suggesting that the house may have originally been larger. Close inspection reveals that the remnants to the south are not homogenous with the main frame.
