GII Weir.Medieval in origin,probably rebuilt mid C19 during building of Clarence Dock area.Stone.On River Aire below Crown Point Bridge.Originally a dam for the Nether Mills and first documented 1636;the tail race from the mills created Fearne's Island.A barrier to water transport until the cutting made by the Aire and Calder Navigation C1700(qv).(Beresford,MW:East End,West End,Leeds 1684-1842:1988-:10).
