Pair of houses. c1839, altered C20. Probably for Thomas Taylor, machine maker. Red brick, Flemish bond, slate roof. 2 storeys over basement, each house of 2 bays with entrance left. 3 stone steps with moulded treads to 4-panel door with overlight in stone surround with cornice on consoles. Windows with stone sills to ground floor, continuous sill band to 1st floor, rubbed brick arches; No.7 (left) with plate glass, No.9 has 16-pane and glazing-bar sashes. End stacks straddle ridge, centre stacks forward and rear of ridge. INTERIOR: not inspected. Originally part of a terrace of 5 houses, probably built for James Taylor, machine maker, who lived at No.1 (demolished). Included for group value.
