GV II
Hall house with crosswings, now hotel. C16 with C19 and C20
alterations and extensions. Brick, roughcast and colourwashed:
original house timber-framed; slate roofs with brick stacks,
one at left end of central range ridge and at gable ends of
extension ranges.
EXTERIOR: original building has single-storey range parallel
to street with dormer attic; on either side are gabled
crosswings, the left one with first floor jettied on arched
braces. Further right is 2-storey extension of two parallel
ranges, gable end to street. Original building has doorway
under C20 gabled hood to right of central range: to left, one
4/4 horned sash on ground floor, half dormer above with 3/3
horned sash. Crosswings have 4/4 horned sash windows on ground
floor and 3/3 horned sashes to gable attics. Each has an
external wall stack, that to right crosswing subsumed by C19
extension.
Extension has 2 windows on both floors of both ranges: on
ground floor windows are 6/6 sashes, on first floor 8/8
sashes. Rear: C19 and C20 1- and 2-storey extensions.
INTERIOR: south-east corner of ground floor with dragon beams
running in south-east and south-west directions indicating C16
plan was one room deep, jettied front, back and probably to
south sides. Various boxed bridging beams and many C20
timbers. Replica small-framed panelling to centre bar.
