Nos.1-17 (Consecutive) and garden walls and steps
II
Terrace of 17 houses with front garden walls and steps. 1850s.
Red-brown and red brick, Flemish bond to front; grey slate
roof. Late Georgian manner.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; one-bay houses except No.16 which is
double-fronted. Nos 1-14 have paired doors in 3-storey
round-arched recessed brick panels beneath pediment gables;
No.15 has a very narrow frontage; Nos 16 and 17, slightly
later, are angled forward and of redder brick. Nos 1-8 and 10
have plaster doorcase pilasters; Nos 16 and 17 have separate
plaster pilaster doorcases; all have plaster entablatures. Nos
1-14 all had doors of one very large fielded panel; those to
Nos 6, 7 and 15 are replaced; Nos 16 and 17 have 4-panel
doors; overlights. Recessed sashes: those to Nos 1-15 of 12
panes to first and second floors, 9 panes to third floor, with
painted stone sills and gauged brick segmental arches; Nos 16
and 17 have 4-pane sashes in shouldered and eared architraves;
some sashes to Nos 6, 7 and 14 have been replaced or altered;
an inserted sash above doorway of No.12. Two sashes per floor
in end of No.1; fascias and ogee cornice gutters; 2 chimneys
on west end; ridge chimneys. Rears have no visible features of
special interest.
INTERIORS: awkwardly related to the facade, have one window
only, near the corner of each main room.
