GV

Pair of cottages. 1852. Probably by James Harrison. Flemish
bond brown brick with graded grey slate roof.
2 storeys with a pair of front-gabled bays flanked by porch
bays. Plinth. Replaced 12-pane sash far left; stone step to
4-panel door with 3-pane radial-bar fanlight in round brick
arch; a canted bay window to each cottage with painted stone
sill and 3;6;3-pane sashes; blocked window in flank of main
bay; replaced half-glazed 4-panel door with blocked fanlight.
The first floor has a 16-pane sash to the front bedroom of
each cottage. Fenestration of left end probably replaced;
right end has 3 recessed 12-pane sashes to each floor; all
sashes have painted stone sills and gauged-brick flat arches.
The rear has alterations at ground floor level; two 16-pane
sashes under dormer gables .
INTERIORS not inspected.
With Nos 2-18 and 7-17 Victoria Pathway (qv) this item
comprises an unusual example of mid C19 suburban planning
analogous to mid C20 Radburn layouts with a footpath serving
the fronts of the cottages and vehicular streets at their
rear.
