Outer half of former drum tower. Probably C13 converted to a raised promenade 1702-8 and repaired during various periods. Feeble C19 mock crenellation. Coursed red sandstone rubble. The tower projects as a semicircle south from the wall, with its platform at wall walk level; it was brought down to that level in 1876-7. (Improvement Committee Minutes: Chester City Council: 29/11/1876: 1876-).
