Town house. c1760 altered and probably divided 1834 and altered late C20. Stone-dressed Flemish bond brick rendered to street, with grey slate roof, ridge parallel with front. EXTERIOR: cellar and 3 storeys, 4 windows. Painted stone plinth. No.2, left, has 3 repaired stone steps and panelled case to replaced part-glazed 6-panel door in recessed porch. a replaced 12-pane recessed horned sash. No.3 has 3 stone steps to door of 2 short panels, 2 pairs of long panels and 2 short panels in panelled case with architrave; a replaced slightly recessed tripartite sash of 4;12;4 panes. Sillband to second storey; a replaced 12-pane recessed horned sash, a blocked sash and two replaced 12-pane recessed sashes. Sillband to third storey; fenestration as to second storey. Lead rainwater pipe and head; band and cornice to parapet. The west gable-end is largely recased in brick. The south, formerly garden, front has 3 former coach houses, now garages, with boarded doors, segmental arches and keystones, forming a projecting basement. The next storey has a replaced central small-pane glazed door to balcony on basement roof in a case with replaced architrave and consoles; a replaced 4;12;4 pane tripartite sash with wedge lintel and keystone to each side of door. The second main storey has a floor band, a 12-pane central sash and two 4;12;4 pane tripartite sashes with wedge lintels and keystones. The third storey has floorband and windows similar to the second storey. Rusticated quoins; moulded cornice of painted stone; brick parapet; moulded coping. INTERIOR: No.3 has cellar with probably stone-cut lower walls, stone steps and brick barrel-vault. The hall has patterned tile floor, HL hinges to front door and round arch on fluted pilasters at rear. The west front room has surfaces covered; the rear room has panelled dado, fire surround with panelled overmantel and ceiling cornice. The open-well stair has turned newel, closed string and 3 slender column-on-vase balusters per step, 2 missing. The second storey has panelled embrasures with benches, panelled pilasters to arch to rear. The front room has a cornice. The large rear room has entrance alcove
with panelled basket-arch, and a similar arched alcove further back; cornice. The stair continues to the third storey which has a Georgian fireplace in front room; the rear room is altered. The stair to the attic is simpler than below, No.2 could not be inspected. No.1 Clayton Court, 1834 (rainwater head) has been much altered and is not included in this item.
