4/37 Two Lodges and Gateway at the 14.7.55 Entrance to the Duke Ride. (Formerly listed as Pair GV II of Lodges and archway)

A pair of lodge cottages with an arched carriage-way between them. Early C19. White brick with freestone dressings. The cottages are single-storey, with shallow-pitched slate roofs hidden behind stone parapets, surmounted on each side by 3 large stone balls. String course. Recessed windows with semi-circular arched heads and heavy glazing bars with double arched brick surrounds. The high archway has a matching double surround and a triangular pediment above with curves below, in the form of a shaped gable. Built into each side of the gable are small chimney-stacks for the lodge cottages. A pair of high wrought iron gates have plain bars, divided by a band of guilloche ornament, and spearhead tops.
