4/10 School House - - II
Former village school and schoolhouse, now a dwelling. Mid C19. In red brick, with rusticated white brick quoins and dressings and an ogee-moulded cornice. Black glazed pantiles: crested ridge-tiles remain on parts of the school roofs. Pierced and fluted bargeboards remain on some gables. The former school, to the west, is single-storey. T-shaped form, with a small centrally-placed wing jutting forward. 2 narrow windows on the south and doors for the schoolchildren on east and west. On the roof, a small wooden bell turret with hipped slate roof. To each side of the wing, a small-paned sash window with flat gauged arch for each of the school rooms. At the west end, a 5-sided canted bay with 3 small-paned sash windows and a tented slate roof was added at a slightly later date, using matching materials. The former school house, to the east of, and attached to, the school, is 2-storey, with a central chimney-stack. The large plain red brick shaft has white brick rustication. 2 windows: small-paned sashes. On the east side, a single-storey extension in matching materials, which now contains the entry. The rear wall of the house is in rubble flint.
