2/53 The Old Rectory - - II
Former rectory. Circa 1840: per Glebe Terrier of 1850 'lately rebuilt'. 2 storeys and attics. Colour-washed brick, plaintiled roofs with overhanging eaves and mutule cornice. A double house with central well to roof, and the 2 sides extending into short, hipped wings at the rear. 6 window range: small- paned sashes in deep reveals, some with old crown glass. Off-centre entrance: double door with 2 flush panels in a rounded arched surround. A mid C19 white brick porch, plain and flat-roofed. The space between the 2 wings on the rear (garden) front is infilled with a large Edwardian conservatory. At the west end of the house, a lower 2-storey range with lean-to pantiled roof, casement windows with slightly arched brick heads, one with square leaded panes, and doorway with reeded surround. The interior has fragmentary evidence of an older timber-framed core, and apparently incorporates an earlier parsonage house. The ceiling has been removed from the entrance hall, which now rises the whole height of the house and contains a geometrical stair with mouldedhandrail and flat carved and pierced balusters.
