Barn immediately NW of Heath Farm
II
Barn. Mid C16 with C18 addition to south, forming a single long range.
Timber framed, part weatherboarded, part clad in corrugated iron, on a flint
and brick plinth. Corrugated iron-clad roof. A small C19 flint addition to
the south. Interior. C16 section. 6 bays: jowled main posts, mid rail,
largely intact heavy studding. Evidence for wall bracing at corners, now
removed. The original tie beam braces have all been replaced by knees. Cart
entry in 3rd bay from north, originally only on west side. Brick threshing
floor. Roof has butt and clasped purlins the latter mostly renewed, together
with some of the rafters. There is a ridge piece. Later queen. struts to the
lower row of purlins. Evidence for missing wind bracing. C18 addition. 4
bays. Intact frame, the north gable end dividing it from the C16 work. A
substantial frame with full-height studding and straight primary braces. Cart
entry in 2nd bay from south. The tie beams have original knee braces, except
the 2 flanking the cart entry bay which are arched-braced on one side. Roof
has 2 rows of stepped butt purlins and a ridge piece.
