TM 23 NE KIRTON CHURCH LANE (East side) 2/14 Church of St Mary and 16.3.66 St Martin
GV II
Parish church, nave and chancel C16, tower rebuilt in C16. Considerably altered in mid C19 when north aisle was added. Tower in Septaria, flint and brick; string course to brick, battlemented belfry stage; nave and chancel in septaria and flint repaired with red brick, nave stuccoed to south wall. Tower has 2 diagonal, stepped buttresses, C14 west doorway with moulded pointed arch and panel window over the brick dressings to stonework. Belfry louvred windows with pointed brick arches and jambs and Y tracery. Inside is a C13 font with square bowl on round shaft and 4 detached columns; C15 piscina and south blocked doorway.
