Farmhouse. C16 and C17 with C19 and C20 additions and alterations. Timber
framed and brick with colourwashed render and a plain tiled roof (probably
originally thatched). Two storeys with attic. Baffle-entry 3-cell plan of
C17 form although apparently incorporating earlier work. Entrance front:
projecting plinth, pebble-dashed. Four bays, that at right of centre a porch-
wing, possibly of C19 date of 2 storeys with gable having a Cl9 doorway at
ground floor level with a 1/2-glazed door and a moulded lintel of painted ashlar
with projecting keystone, and lateral rosettes. Stained glass sash window to
the first floor above this with a similarly moulded lintel. All the
fenestration on this front appears to be of C19 date. To the second floor at
right and left of the porch are 4-light casements and to far left a 3-light
window and at extreme left a lean-to of C19 or C20 date with a pantile roof.
To the first floor are three 3-light casement windows. There are ridge stacks
to right of centre, having 4 flues above the present porch wing and a single
stack at left. Left hand gable end: large outshut at left of C19 and C20 date
with a 2-light window at right, a glazed door at left and a 2-light window at
mezzanine level. The gable end at right of this has a 2-light window at
ground floor left and a 2-light first floor window at right and a 2-light
window to the gable. Rear: almost entirely masked by an outshut with catslide
roof to left of which is a C20 greenhouse with a 3-light first floor wing
above. Interior: Massive chamfered ceiling beams in cross pattern with
stepped run-out stops and heavy rafters, apparently of C16 date to one ground
floor room. In the same room are jowled wall posts and close studding to the
former rear wall which also contains a window with hollow-chamfered mullions
now giving onto the C19 outshut. Further chamfered ceiling beams, and jowled
wall posts to outer ground floor and first floor rooms and exposed close
studding. The baffle-entry plan has a staircase leading up from the lobby with
two 1/4-turns.
