TM 37 SW HEVENINGHAM CHURCH ROAD

5/63 Heveningham House - - II House, formerly the rectory. C18 (or possibly earlier) to rear, early C19 to front forming double pile plan; mid C20 single storey wing to right hand side. Rear range of red brick with white brick facing to the gable ends and plaintiled roof. Front range of white brick with slated roof. 2 storeys. Symmetrical facade with flanking paired giant brick pilasters, the central bay set slightly forward and pedimented; stone band at first floor level, flat parapet with 2 narrow raised bands at the base. Inset sash windows with slender glazing bars, flat arches; the ground floor windows have cornices on console brackets. The central first floor window is set within a semi- circular arched recess which continues into the pediment above. Central doorway with Greek Doric portico, the side openings now partly glazed; mid C20 three-quarter glazed door; above the portico is a section of balustrading. Good well staircase with slender square balusters and carved ends to the treads.
