Wrought iron carriage and pedestrian gates, limestone piers and red brick
walls with terminal piers of limestone. Placed at the bead of the main
entrance drive to Orwell Park House. Mid C19, for Col. George Tomline, MP. A
wrought iron screen in 3 sections, all richly ornamented with scroll-work; in
the centre section is a pair of carriage gates, each bearing the coat of arms;
on either side is a pedestrian gate within a large fixed panel. Square
wrought iron piers, infilled with scroll-work, frame the 3 sections. A pair
of limestone piers in the Renaissance manner with sunk panels and bold
cornice, support the screen and are linked to curved flank walls of red brick,
with simple terminal piers of limestone at the roadside.
