4/276 Barn at Tile Barn Farm II

Barn. Probably early-mid c18, possibly reusing some earlier timbers; altered. Timber frame with weatherboard and corrugated iron cladding; deep brick plinth in English and Flemish bonds; low rubblestone plinth at south-west end. Corrugated iron roof. Central opposing cart entrances lowered on farmyard side, with corrugated iron doors on other side. South-west end with corrugated iron cladding and attached C20 range not of special interest. Interior: sole plate set on plinth; unjowelled wall posts with long straight braces to wall plates and tie-beams; intermediate posts a number replaced or missing; queen strut trusses with clasped through-purlins, partly renewed; coupled rafters with carpenters marks (no ridge-piece).

Documentary evidence records the building of a barn in 1680, but the framing of this building is C18 in character, apart from the rafters which are probably reused.
