6.10.89 Barn approx. 20 metres south-east of Bocketts Farmhouse
GV II
Barn. Probably c.1800; extended. Weather-boarded timber frame with brick gable walls, red tile roof. Rectangular 5-bay plan on north-south axis, with opposed wagon entrances in the centre, lean-to extensions to the east side and a full- height additions at the north end; the west front has a tall slightly-projecting gabled porch with arch-bracing to the wagon doorway and double doors (damaged); the east side (or rear) has a prominent porch with tall double doors, a lean-to on each side with a low doorway in the centre and that to the north with a small shuttered window to the left of the door. The roof has coped gables. At the north end are short weather-boarded additions with hipped roofs. (A lean-to shelter added to the south end is not of special interest.) Interior: sawn soft-wood frame with angle-braces and queen-strut roof trusses. The item is the most conspicuous element in an unusually complete group of farm buildings on this site.
