Details

1. 1099 ALTON ROAD (South East Side)

Willey Mill [House and Mill buildings] SU 84 NW 11/145 26.4.50.

II

2. Mill House - C18. 2 storey. Colourwashed brick. Hipped old tile roof. 3 windows on 1st floor. 2 windows on ground floor and central 6-panel door under delicate contemporary lattice porch with 3-centred arched head and panelled lattice surround to opening, lead barrel roof. Extension to left hand set back with one window, and on return front 6 panel door with window to side and window over. The Mill buildings adjoin at right angles to left hand, a long brick block with old tile roof and irregular casements and doors. Still in working order. Hatch Mill (Farnham By-pass), Bourne Mill (Guildford Road), High Mill and Bourne Place (both in Moor Park Lane) are also listed. Although all these mills except Bourne Mill are C18 buildings, and are later than the period when Farnham was one of the great corn markets of South England, they are all good buildings of their kind with attractive mill houses, worthy of preservation as a reminder of an historical past and for architectural interest.
