Former Skinners Arms Public House, now 2 shops, 1 office and 2 flats. C17,
largely rebuilt and extended late C18 and early Cl9; altered C20. Red brick in
Flemish bond; plain tile roof. 2 storeys. 6 bays, 2:3:1, the right bay
canted; with parallel rear range. Four c.1900-style shop fronts with fluted
pilasters supporting frieze and bead-and-reel band; bowed small-pane windows;
doors with small-paned I-glazing, 2 set in panelled reveals. First floor:
sashes with glazing bars (the 2 on right C20) in reveals with flat brick arches
and projecting sills. Coped parapet. Roof hipped at left end and with stack
between bays 2 and 3. Rear: some sashes with glazing bars in flush wood archi-
traves to first floor. Interior: large-scantling beams with run-out stops to 3
right-hand bays on ground floor, and timber-framed partition between these and
rest of building, on first floor with straight braces from wall posts to tie-
beam. The beams and remnants of timber framing suggest that this was a 2-bay
C17 building refronted and added to on left and at rear in c19.
