Terraced house, later inn. C18 with mid Victorian shop front. Red brick in Flemish bond with rubbed brick dressings and moulded brick storey bands at 2nd- and 3rd-floor levels. Roof parapeted. 3 storeys and attic. 2-window range. All openings flat-arched, those to upper floors with gauged brick lintels and 6x6 sashes of an authentic design. Shop front consists of pilasters on party walls with anthemion capitals; plain pilasters between framing shallow shop front bay and entrance to left. INTERIOR: published sources record many original interior features, including pine panelling to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors; open-well stair to rear, that is north-east corner, the upper flights C18 with a moulded handrail to 1st and 2nd floors; 3 balusters to a step and newels carved as fluted Doric columns. HISTORICAL NOTE: in the mid C18 it was known as the Bell and Bear Inn. (Darlington, I: Survey of London: London: 1955-: 23).
