II
House. Circa 1830; extended circa mid C19. Stuccoed. Hipped slate roof with lead rolls to hips and ridge. Rendered side stacks with yellow clay pots. PLAN: Two principal rooms on south garden front, entrance on east side, and service rooms at back [N] in small 2-storey wings. In circa mid C19 a single storey 1-bay extension was added to the left side. In about the early C20 shops were formed at the back [N]. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 3-bay south front. Two tall 15-pane sashes on ground floor with shallow 3-centred arch niche at centre; 12-pane sashes above with blind window at centre; verandah across ground floor removed. Single storey exrension on left with French window and cornice and parapet above. Right-hand [E] return has central doorway with fielded 6-panel door, rectangular traceried overlight and moulded canopy on shaped brackets; C20 extension to right with 12-pane sash above. At rear two lower hipped roof service wings, the right with early C20 shop front; single storey extension on right with early C20 shop front. INTERIOR: Much of the original joinery remains intact, including panelled doors and window shutters, staircase with stick balusters, column newels and wreathed mahogany handrail, and moulded wooden chimneypieces on first floor, one with original grate. Moulded plaster ceiling cornices and light roses.
