Detached house & studio. 1875. By T Batterbury and WF Huxley.
For the landscape painter CE Johnson. Red brick, renewed on
gables. Tiled double mansard roofs with Flemish type gables.
2 storeys, attic and semi-basement. 3 windows. Entrance on
left hand return. Main facade with plain brick bands at floor
levels; left hand bay with slightly arched gauged brick heads
to a sash with brick apron on ground and 1st floor; 2nd floor
forming a gabled dormer. Right hand bay slightly projecting
with bay window rising through semi-basement and ground floor
finishing with a moulded brick cornice and parapet. Slightly
arched gauged brick heads to upper floor sashes, 2nd floor
with brick aprons. This bay terminating in a bracketed gable
with 2 blind rectangular panels and oculus in the apex. Left
hand return with brick pedimented doorcase; round-arched
entrance with impost bands; fanlight and panelled door. 2
gables, that above the door shaped and terminating in a banded
chimney-stack.
