Terraced house. c1720, refronted early C19. Yellow stock brick
with stucco dressings. Double depth plan with closet wing.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and cellars. 2 windows. Late C20 plate
glass shopfront with house door to left of 6 fielded panels
with overlight. First floor has gauged brick flat arches to
casements set in shallow round-arched recesses linked by
stucco impost bands; continuous cast-iron balcony of
intersecting design. 2nd and 3rd floors with gauged brick flat
arches to recessed 4-pane sashes. 3rd floor sill level
projecting painted wooden cornice; above, stucco cornice and
blocking course.
INTERIOR: has original plain panelled hall leading to plain
panelled stairwell with dog-leg open string stair of twisted
balusters (some replaced), scroll and rose carved brackets,
fluted Corinthian column newels and moulded ramp handrail. At
1st floor, box cornice of landing continues under stair
soffit. Top flight balusters of earlier design and have been
lengthened and reset. 1st floor front room has fine moulded
plaster ceiling with central high relief cupid with bow and
arrow on low relief clouds set within a foliated roundel
within a guilloche octagon; all surrounded by a moulded string
with arabesque enrichment at angles and centres of sides.
Modillion and rose box cornice. Casements with fielded panel
shutters enriched with egg-and-dart moulding; carved surrounds
of rose, shell and dart enrichment. Carved enrichment to
shouldered fireplace with rose stops. Carved dado rail of
egg-and-dart and Greek key design. Original doorframes and
6-panel doors, that to rear room with carved enrichment. Rear
room has fine moulded plaster ceiling of central roundel with
high relief human mask surrounded by low relief rays and
clouds; arabesque enrichment at angles. Dentil box cornice.
Complete plain panelling with moulded dado rail and angle
fireplace. Closet wing plain panelled. 2nd floor front and
rear rooms plain panelled with box cornices and original
2-panel doors. Rear room with angle fireplace. Plan form of
closet remains.
