2 houses, now one. 1871-2. By Alfred Waterhouse; refurbished
c1990. Portland stone. Slated roof with tall enriched stone
slab chimneys and 3 symmetrical gabled dormers.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, attic and basement. 6 windows. Entrances
in outer bays; gabled hoods with finials, enriched corbels and
round-arched entrances having recessed panelled double doors
with fanlights approached by steps. Ground floor sashes
round-arched with arcaded architraves on colonnettes; 2
central windows flanked by clustered pilasters. 2nd & 3rd
floor sashes paired and recessed with raking sills; 1st floor
with panelled aprons, moulded heads and central colonnettes
supporting stilted enriched segmental arches. 2nd floor with
enriched segmental heads flanked by large brackets of balcony
with cast-iron railings to 3rd floor casements in groups of 3
with square moulded heads, to each individual casement, on
colonnettes. Corbelled modillion cornice below dormers;
central dormer has 3 windows with colonnettes and a plate
tracery rose window in apex with finial, flanking dormers 1
window each and finial.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached area cast and wrought-iron
railings of roundel and scroll design on low stone wall with
gate piers to each entrance.
