House (No.31) with attached shop (No.29) and house (No.31A).
Dated 1841 at first floor of No.31. Brown brick in English
garden wall bond (5 plus one courses), the shop rendered and
painted white; slate roofs on 3 levels. No.31 is double-depth
and double-fronted (plus a small back extension), with No.29
attached to its left and No.31A attached and breaking forward
to the right.
EXTERIOR: No.31: 2-storey; 2-window range. Almost symmetrical:
round-headed doorway with stepped surround, 4-panel door and
plain fanlight, 2 6/6 sashes on each floor with raised sills
and wedge lintels, and gable chimneys.
No.29 to the left: double-depth and single-fronted, one
storey, with a doorway to the left and a large oblong 6-pane
window.
No.31A to the right: double-depth and single-fronted. 2
storeys; single-window range. Doorway to the left with an
altered panelled door, a 6/6 sash on each floor, both with
raised sills and all these openings with flat-arched heads,
and a gable chimney to the right.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with Nos 17-23 to the left (qv), No.1 Churchgate
to the left and rear (qv), and Nos 2-6 Back Botanic Road
opposite (qv).
